In addition to being delicious, bananas also have a number of health benefits associated with their consumption. Below are just some of the reasons bananas are about to become your new favorite fruit!

1. Bananas taste great, and the average banana contains around 110 calories, but they are also an incredibly versatile fruit and can be baked in healthy muffins and bars, blended in smoothies, and eaten in yogurt.

2. We don’t just eat bananas for their great taste, but also because they are packed with the vitamins and minerals our bodies need. They are naturally free of fat and cholesterol and filled with magnesium, copper, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B6 — which according to LiveStrong, is necessary to grow new cells.

3. When you think of bananas perhaps the most well-known thing about them is that they are filled with potassium. Potassium can help regulate heart function and control blood pressure. In fact, a diet rich in potassium can reportedly help lower blood pressure.

4. They also contain pectin which aids digestion, as well as act as a prebiotic, which triggers the growth of good bacteria in the bowel.

5. The high fiber content of bananas makes you feel full for longer, and this could in turn help with weight loss.

6. Bananas are useful as a pre-workout snack because they maintain your blood sugar levels.

7. According to Food Matters, bananas can benefit those suffering from depression, this is because a banana contains tryptophan, which is converted into serotonin, the feel-good brain neurotransmitter.

8. It’s not just eating bananas that makes them great because according to BBC Good Food, the inside of a banana peel can help soothe mosquito bites. Try rubbing the skin on the bite to reduce irritation.

9. Another reason we love bananas is how easy they are to transport; you can grab one on your way to the office, put it in your handbag and eat it on the go without any mess or fuss.
