9 Ways to Eat Yourself to a Flatter Stomach

For most people, their middle section tends to be the problem area, and although exercises like side crunches, and lunge and twists, will help you achieve your goal of a flatter stomach, what you eat can also have an impact.

There are certain foods to avoid if you want to prevent bloating and inflammation. These include alcohol like beer, foods filled with sodium which increases water weight — this could be a major culprit when it comes to bloating — and processed and fried foods are high in trans fats are linked to inflammation and increased belly fat. Below are eight foods and two drinks that can help you achieve a flatter stomach.

• According to a report, blueberries are filled with antioxidants and research has linked eating this fruit to less abdominal fat, as well as improved glucose control.

Almonds are a great snack when you’re on the go. They are filled with monounsaturated fatty acids, fiber, Vitamin E, and magnesium, which helps to regulate blood sugar and thus prevent cravings and overeating.

• According to Health, yogurt has beneficial probiotics, “which help balance microflora and prevent bloating.” It is also filled with protein and helps keep you full for longer.

Cucumbers are low in calories, have a high water content, and contain the flavonoid antioxidant quercetin which reduces swelling, and therefore helps prevent bloating, making this is a fantastic snack for when you’re trying to shed the pounds.

• Seafood, especially fatty fish like salmon, is high in omega-3 fatty acids and helps promote fat burning. It slows digestion, prevents cravings, and is also an excellent source of protein.

Citrus fruits like grapefruit, mandarins, and lemons are nutritious and rich in vitamins, including Vitamin C. They are also rich in plant compounds and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Eggs are the purest form of protein and are a fantastic snack, or a great meal to start off the day. The protein and fat found in eggs also help make you feel full for longer.

Bananas are a fruit packed with vitamins and minerals, including potassium, but they have another benefit when it comes to a flatter stomach and this thanks to their resistant starch, which digested slowly.

• If you find you feel particularly bloated, then drinking peppermint tea, or green tea could help reduce swelling. Green tea is filled with antioxidants which can help combat inflammation.
