Everything You Need to Know About Bungee Workouts

Should you take the plunge?

Bungee workouts are a popular new trend sweeping through the U.S., UK, and Australia. It's a fascinating type of workout, one that combines the elasticity of bungee cords with resistance training movements. If you're looking for something new to try, you may want to give Bungee workouts a try!

Bungee Workouts 101

Bungee workouts are a beautiful combination of core training, cardiovascular exercise, and resistance training—all with a bungee cord attached to your waist.

The workouts are simple: secure the bungee cord hanging from the roof to your waist, and follow the instructor as they run, jump, dance, squat, lunge, sprint, push-up, plank, and other resistance training movements. The bungee cord will reduce your body weight, making the movements easier. At the same time, you'll have to expend effort to stretch the bungee cord when you move, so your muscles get an endurance-focused workout.

The purpose of Bungee workouts is to keep moving around as much as possible. The workouts transition from simple resistance training movements (like squats, lunges, push-ups, planks, etc.) into more active movements, like running, jumping, or lateral shuffling. The point of the workout is to combine fast-paced, explosive movements (jumping or sprinting) with the weight-bearing bungee cord. It's definitely one of the most unique workouts around!

Why Bungee Workouts Rock

The workouts are excellent for building muscle and fat-burning. The Bungee cord carries some of your weight, so classic resistance training movements like push-ups and squats are made a bit easier. However, the fact that you're constantly moving, running, and jumping means you're doing a lot of low-intensity, steady state exercise. This is ideal for activating stored fat and burning it in a way high intensity workout (which uses glucose rather than fats) can't.

But the workouts are also great for those who want to enhance mobility. They don't involve high-impact movements, but the bungee cords absorb most of the impact on your joints. To improve your flexibility, these workouts are an amazing way to go.

Finally, bungee workouts are just a heck of a lot of fun! You can fly around the studio on a bungee cord, running on the walls and feeling absolutely weightless. It's one of the most unique workouts, and one of the most enjoyable anywhere in the world.

Where to Find Bungee Workouts

Sadly, bungee workouts aren't available at your average gym or CrossFit box. You'll have to find special dance or fitness studios that offer the workouts. The studios will need to install special anchors for the bungee cords, and they will only be able to fit in a handful of students per class. Thankfully, you can find bungee workouts in most cities around the U.S., and many in the U.K. and Australia as well.

Who Can Do Bungee Workouts?

Anyone! That's the beauty of the bungee workouts. They're fairly low impact, and they're ideal for people of most fitness levels. If you want to get fit in a fun, new way, bungee workouts are definitely a good option to consider.
