Get Better Sleep With These Ingenious Tech Accessories

The average person reportedly sleeps 25 years of their lifetime (calculated if you sleep around eight hours a night and live until you're aged 75), which should put into perspective just how important sleep is for humans to function. And if you're not getting enough sleep, or a low quality of sleep, this can lead to health problems.

While it may seem odd to bring technology into the bedroom (after all we know how terrible it can be to look at a phone screen or a television while trying to sleep) there are some products on the market which have been specifically designed in order to improve your quality of sleep.

Sleep Shepherd Blue: It may seem odd going to bed every night wearing a headband, especially one that has a price tag of $249.99, but this is not just any headband. Within the fabric of the headband there are thin speakers and electroencephalograph (EEG) sensors. The idea is for you to track your sleep patterns with extreme accuracy by using brainwave data with motion, as well as sleep orientation information, to determine the overall quality of the sleep you had the night before.

Not your thing? The Sleep Shepherd brand also has a cheaper option the sleep hat, for $99.99, which helps optimize your sleep patterns.

Neuroon Open: If you're serious about getting a good night's rest, then the Neuroon Open, an advanced sleep tracker that measures EEG (brainwaves) to compile data for advanced sleep staging, could be just what you need. In addition to measuring your brainwaves, this device also keeps track of your movement, your pulse and temperature measurement, and it uses light therapy. That said, because there are so many functions in one device, it definitely doesn't come cheap, and has a price tag of $199.

Remee: Remee's slogan is "dream better" and that is exactly what this product does. It's a fabric shell eye mask complete with customizable light signals (red LEDs) which target your REM cycles and are intended to help people realize the benefits of dreaming.

The Remee device costs $95 and comes in a range of 5 different colors. It's extremely lightweight, and has layers of variable foam for maximum comfort and breathability. The battery will last six months or more before needing to be changed.

Bedphones: DubLabs has created a product called Bedphones Gen. 3, an extremely thin set of on-ear headphones designed to let you fall asleep while listening to your favorite audio (ambient sounds, music, or audiobooks). It's a great way to unwind, and the best thing about this product is that it comes with a mobile app which switches off the audio once you fall asleep.

Pillow: If you want to track your sleep, but spending a fortune on fancy gadgets doesn't interest you, then Pillow may be for you. Pillow is an app available for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch which is easy to use and monitors your movements and sounds while you sleep. The aim is to help you get a better overall understanding of how well you sleep, and when you should be waking up.
